Recycling

Revised: August 31, 2010

When most people think of recycling, it's aluminum cans, paper, and plastic. There are many more materials that can be added to that list, however, and need not merely rot in the landfill. Some you may not have thought of are:

  • Construction and Demolition Debris
  • Car Batteries
  • Computers/Electronics
  • Corrugated Cardboard
  • Glass
  • Household Chemicals and Waste
  • Steel Cans
  • Styrofoam
  • Tires
  • Salt Lake County's Recycling Information Office (RIO) gathers information from 17 local cities and companies to produce its Recycling Guide [PDF]. This guide provides drop-off locations and information about what each location can process. They also offer hints about how to prepare materials for recycling.

Other material available here for perusal:

  • Recycling Materials - A PDF with information about how aluminum, batteries, glass, paper, plastic, and tires are recycled and what they are re-made into.
  • Recycling Q&A - Test how much you know about what can and can't be recycled. Some amnswers may surprise you.
