Water Rights in Tooele Valley

Revised: November 21, 2001
NEWS RELEASE

The Utah State Engineer will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, November 28th to discuss issues relating to the management of water rights in Tooele Valley. The main topics to be addressed are; 1) the safe yield of the Tooele Valley ground-water system, 2) coordinated management of wells and springs, and 3) the quantity of water represented by existing water rights in the valley. State Engineer Bob Morgan hopes to get comments and ideas from local water users on concerns and issues they would like to have addressed in a proposed water rights management plan for the valley.

We need assistance from the local water users to find and implement an acceptable plan, says Morgan. We will present what we think are the main issues. The solutions will have to be found through a joint effort involving all of the stakeholders.

Tooele Valley water planners, officials, irrigators, and other interested parties are encouraged to attend.

The meeting is scheduled for November 28, 2:00 p.m. at the USU Tooele Branch Campus, Room F, 1021 West Vine Street and is expected to last about two hours.
